Every year over the 14-15 August, the Compagnie des Guides, welcomes new members into the company and presents awards to an exemplary member. The Compagnie des Guides then hosts a spectacle on the rock face of Les Gaillands where the guides themselves act scenes on the rock. This year, however, the spectacle had to be canceled because it was too wet to hold the performance. The second biggest festival in Haute-Savoie after Lake Annecy's festival, the "Fête des Guides" with its light & sound show, fireworks, and concerts, usually attracts a huge crowd. The proceeds of the event go to an insurance fund helping families of Compagnie des Guides members. Although the spectacle is insured, and people still turned up to show their support at the party, the cancellation is unfortunate for spectators who came to see a show very unique in its genre and the participants who worked so hard in their preparation.
