This autumn, experts concluded that the windows of the gondola were no longer original and that the joints may have weakened with age. This analysis was in line with the BEA-TT's July findings. Without waiting for the results of further expert analysis, the courts have charged the Compagnie du Mont Blanc with manslaughter. The Compagnie du Mont Blanc have indicated that they are cooperating fully with the investigation and that the charges are just a normal part of the investigation process. François Bidault (managing director of the Compagnie du Mont Blanc) denies the Compagnie du Mont Blanc's responsibility in the accident claiming that the accident was caused by misuse of the lift. The new Planpraz lift (which had been scheduled for renovation well before the March accident) re-opened on the 20th of December 2008.
