Inversion and anti-cyclonic weather might be nice for a day out in the mountains but it retains pollution in the valleys. This weekend, the air quality in the Arve Valley exceeded the level of pollution to qualify for an alert, 125 micrograms per cubic meter. Authorities decided to react and reduce the speed limit by 20km/h on all roads with speed limits over 70km/h, which affects among other roads, the Auto Route Blanche to the airport. There is some debate as to whether or not such a law would hold up in court, but in order not to be fined and find out the hard way, be green and keep your speed down. The new speed limits will remain in effect as long as the pollution is dangerously high. If tomorrow's predicted snow flurries do not clear the air, there is apparently another storm front on its way on Sunday.
