Chamonix, Extreme Ski: a new couloir on the Noire

It's only the 4th time that some skis touch the snow on the Glacier de la Noire, 800m of steep ski in the flanks of the Vallée Blanche and the Dent du Géant. Anselme Baud had skied the first time on that face and Emmanuel RATOUIT skied it 3 years ago, finding a passage on the right of the serac. A passage was created thanks to the climate warming. "I love these routes, a lot of route finding, where we must change slope/couloir several times", explains the extreme skier. This time he was with his friend Christopher Bressand, on the April 9th. Objective: to ski again the extraordinarily Glacier de la Noire. But the conditions changed in the top of the glacier, making the passage that he used 3 years ago, very delicate. They had to change the route. After a abseil of 50m, they went for another couloir on the left, that avoids that break in the top of the Glacier. Great atmosphere in this beautiful couloir, which leads back to the Glacier de la Noire. In an excellent cold snow, they skied down this route at 55° in 100m and 250m at 50°. "We had to do another abseil of 20 m to join the glacier. Under the cold snow, the rock was not too far ...! " The end was in a powder snow "grandiose", this part of the descent is always in the shade.
