Two persons injured in a Paragliding accident in Chamonix

It was around 4:45pm yesterday when a tandem paraglider had an accident, shortly after takeoff at the top of the Grands Montets (3300 m). The clouds interfered with visibility of the pilot. The rescue was also difficult for the PGHM Chamonix, because of these conditions. The rescue team had to be dropped at the intermediate station "Lognan" (1900 m), and from there they were transported by gondola/cabine. To reach the two victims, a paragliding monitor of Chamonix and his passenger, they still had to walk for a while. The accident was serious, fractures of the legs or pelvis were suspected. One of the two victims, the most seriously injured was taken to an hospital in Annecy. The other was taken to Sallanches. The day was intense for the mountain rescue team with eleven interventions: cervical trauma in a Mountain Bike accident in Vallorcine, asthma case at the Mont Buet, several rescues in the Mont Blanc routes...
