2 climbers freeze to death on Mont Blanc

On Saturday, two men in their thirties crossed l'Aiguille and Arete de Bionnassay. Returning late by the Dome du Gouter, they called the mountain rescue around 8pm, but caught by a storm the two climbers had to spend Saturday night outside at 4200 meters. On Sunday, the PGHM set-off on an unsuccessful rescue attempt from the Refuge de Gouter to try to find them in the bad weather. There was no further telephone contact after the climbers' phone battery ran out on Sunday. The climbers therefore spent a second night outside (Sunday to Monday), but didn't survive the harsh weather and froze to death. It wasn't until yesterday (Monday) around noon that the Chamonix PGHM found the bodies of the two climbers at the Col du Gouter. The two men from Annecy and Marseille had apparently sheltered in a crevice. The remains were finally brought down by helicopter last night. Radio Mont Blanc
