Chamonix 2019: Trains every half hour

Last Friday, 22nd June 2018, the mayor of Chamonix, Éric Fournier, announced that Mont-Blanc Express rail line will be improved in 2019.

The Mont-Blanc express rail line will be renewed

According to Le Dauphine, during his last public meeting of the municipal council, the mayor has reported that the first concern is to modernize the Mont-Blanc Express rail line between Saint-Gervais (Le Fayet) and Vallorcine in 2019.

The Region assumes that the entire cost of the project will reach 23 million euros. Éric Fournier said that this "puts an end to the blockage related to the non-participation of the State in the financing of this project".

The second concern is the renewal of 8.2 km of railroad and ballast, which covers about 40% of the Pays du Mont-Blanc territory. That will reach the amount of nearly 19 million euros.

Also, between 2020 and 2021, the replacement of engineering structures, including three rail bridges located in Chamonix (€2.5 million) and the strengthening of the power line of 15,000 volts (€1 million).

A program will be created in such a way that the trains will circulate every half hour.

Thit will be very important for the population that circulates between Vallorcine and Les Houches "The inhabitants have become accustomed to this transport in common" said the mayor during the city council.
