Chamonix Crystal Show 2013

Fri 1 Nov 2013 from 9am, The Chamonix Crystal Show 2013 takes place in Le Majestic.

This annual event gathers members of the Mineralogy Club and an eclectic audience of viewers and traders drawn to Chamonix from all around the world by the excitment of the 2013 collections.  In particular, the Chamonix Crystal Show is eagerly awaited by the rock hounds of the region, as this is the premier exhibition of minerals from the Alpine Arc (France, Switzerland, Italy).

Typically, amethysts, smoky quartz and red fluorites are found in the Mont-Blanc massif which has provided rich pickings for crystal collectors and rock hounds for over 200 years.

Crystal hunting is an ideal activity for "Adventurers", as it combines mineralogy with alpinism and climbing!
The tradition of crystal-hunting is still much alive in Chamonix but the crystals gathered today are mainly for collections.

A collection of more than 500 specimens from the Mont-Blanc massif and around the world is on display at the Crystal Museum, at Espace Tairraz, in Chamonix. The tour is completed by explanations about the formation of crystals, their distribution in the Alps and the role of quartz in our daily life.
