The 2013 of The North Face Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc was a great event with a perfect conclusion for the hosts as the victor was a frenchman. The runners were treated to very good weather thoughout the race.
The Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc is a single stage mountain ultra marathon through seven valleys, over 71 glaciers and 400 summits; a complete tour of the Mont-Blanc Massif which passes through 3 countries: France, Switzerland and Italy.
The 2013 event saw 2,300 competitors from 74 countries start on Fri 30 Aug at 4:30pm from the center of Chamonix town.
The 2013 UTMB was won by Xavier Thevenard 25, from Nantua in the Jura, with a new record of 20h34m57s. He broke the record of 20h36m43s established by the legendary Catalan runner, Kilian Jornet set in 2011.
In the women's category, American Rory Bosio 29, finished the race in a record time of 22h37m26s.
The Courmayeur-Champex-Chamonix (CCC) "the little sister" of the UTMB, the big winners were the Spaniard Jordi Bes (11h23mn01s) and la francaise Caroline Chaverot (14h12mn00s)
UTMB 2014 News: the Ultra-Trail World Tour (UTWT). From 2014, a circuit will be established with a specific number of Ultra-Trails. The number of trails and their location is yet to be decided. At the end of the season, the World Champion of the Ultra-Trail World Tour will be announced.
