After months of incertitude, crazy rumours and hard work, the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc (CMB) will reopen the second section of the Aiguille du Midi cable car in Chamonix this Saturday morning, December 22, 2018.
It is a big sigh of relief for Mathieu Dechavanne, who is the CEO of the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc (CMB), the company which operates ski lifts in Chamonix. Mathieu Dechavanne had been assuring for weeks that The Aiguille du Midi cable car would resume service before the end of 2018.
The Aiguille du Midi cable car had been stopped many times this year and, because of successive faults on the tractor cable of the second section, it had been completely closed since 26th of August, 2018.
Given the inherent specificity of cable operations and the high level of technical sophistication required, it took four months of in-depth analysis conducted by world-renowned experts to fix the issues and get the car cable operational again.
Mathieu Dechavanne announces: « We have put in place all the financial, technical and human resources needed for the cable car to be reopened in secure conditions as soon as possible, and I sincerely wish to thank all the people who have mobilized for this work - both the external contributors and our highly dedicated teams who have worked together with outside companies ».
