Mont-Blanc: 23 rescue missions by the PGHM in only two days

Saturday, the 29th of June, and Sunday, the 30th of June 2019, were two extremely busy days for the PGHM of Chamonix.

The favourable weather led to a high attendance on the Mont-Blanc massif which, eventually, led to a total of 23 rescue missions in only two days.

This Sunday, the gendarmes came to the rescue of a 64-year-old man who fell in a ravine with his quad.

Wounded in the femur, he was evacuated to the hospital centre of Sallanches.

The PGHM also intervened for a young British man (19), who unscrewed at the Col Des Dards, in the Aiguille Rouges massif.

The mountaineer fell several dozen meters down a slope of snow and mixed rock and slightly injured his head.

He was transported to the Sallanches hospital.

The commander of the PGHM explained that the amazing weather conditions and the large attendance of the Mont-Blanc massif are the main culprits for so many rescue mission.

He congratulated the excellent cooperation between Dragon and Choucas 74, as well as the local firefighters.
