Mont-Blanc Tunnel: starting bus fire under control

On 16 October 2019, at 5.10 pm, smoke burst out of a bus registered in Bulgaria.

Consequently, the traffic of all vehicles in the Mont-Blanc tunnel was interrupted in both directions for around 20 minutes.

Fortunately, the two drivers and the bus itself (the bus circulated with no passengers) were unscathed.

The bus was headed to France and the fire started near the Italian platform of the tunnel.

The alert was given by the toll personnel to the GEIE-TMB's internal security services, permanently present at the Mont-Blanc tunnel.

The GEIE-TMB's internal security service intervened immediately. In accordance with the procedures in force, the intervention of the public rescue services has been requested.

The cause of the fire is most likely an electrical failure that occurred in the engine compartment.

Fortunately, no one was harmed and there were no damages to the bus.

At 5.32 pm, the traffic of all vehicles was resumed.
