Les Houches / Chamonix: the Taconnaz Hydroelectric Power Station

Green energy goes a step further in the Chamonix valley!

On 10 December 2019, the communes of Chamonix and Les Houches have officially signed the protocol for the hydroelectric power station to come into operation.

The Taconnaz hydroelectric plant has been operational since November 2019, but it was on 10 December 2019 that the Chamonix and Les Houches municipalities officially signed the protocol.

The protocol allows the municipalities of Chamonix and Les Houches to be shareholders of the hydroelectric power station, up to 33%.

The Taconnaz hydroelectric will cover the electricity needs of 4,000 households, excluding heating.

Two other hydroelectric installations will be created in the Chamonix valley by 2020: one on the Favrands stream and the other on the Bourgeat stream.

Together with Taconnaz, these three installations will cover almost all the electrical needs of households in the Chamonix Valley.
