From 20 June 2020, residents of the Chamonix valley benefit from the renovation program and the gradual increase in train service, with a summer timetable now brought to half an hour on the line from Les Houches to Vallorcine.
The Chamonix valley trains summer schedule began on 20 June 2020, and it brought several improvements.
To facilitate travel in the valley, a train will be available every half hour and this should become the norm for the next years.
This is one of the main objectives of the new mandate of the regional council and the community of municipalities, in order to establish efficient rail transport, for both visitors and residents.
Eric Fournier, mayor and president of the Community of municipalities of the Chamonix-Mont-Blanc Valley and also vice-president of the regional council responsible for the environment and energy, underlines the importance of this approach: "Time rail is a longer time than others, but after ten years of efforts, the renovation is well underway: with some 3 km of track renovation planned for this year, we will have reached this fall two-thirds of the renovated line, more than 24 km out of 37 km. "
Eric Fournier thanked the Region for its decisive involvement in the progress of the renovation process since it finances the entire work program for the period 2019/2021, as well as to the various SNCF teams "who have succeeded to apply the 2020 work schedule as well as the maintenance of rolling stock prior to the densified summer service, in a very complicated health context ”.
