At the Montenvers site, work already begun for the construction of the new Mer de Glace gondola lift.
To allow the smooth running of the works, the town hall of Chamonix Mont Blanc has issued a municipal order to prohibit access to several trails.
From 17 March to 1st December 2022:
Closure to the public of the access trail to the Mer de Glace via the ladders from the panoramic restaurant and of the access trail via the ladders from the Mottets refreshment bar.
For the many races that start from Montenvers in the Mont Blanc massif, mountaineers will therefore have to go through the stairs and the ice cave this summer.
Closure of Signal Forbes trail until 10 June 2022
Closure to the public until 10 June 2022 of the trail leading to Signal Forbes, which is very popular during the summer.
The companies mobilized on the site must also put in place clear signage so that no hiker ventures into a sector that could be dangerous.

Also due to the works, the Montenvers train currently only provides Vallée Blanche returns from the site from 12 p.m. (noon) to 5 p.m. with a train, every hour.
The Crystal Gallery is permanently closed.
The ice cave will be closed for annual maintenance from 9 May to 3 June 2022 included.
The good news is that during this period, Le Refuge du Montenvers hotel, its restaurant and the neighboring shop will remain open.
