PGHM: Busy days for the rescuers

Two busy days for the High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon (PGHM), Friday 8 July and Saturday 9 July 2022.

Saturday 9 July: eight rescue interventions

According to Le Dauphine, at 8:10 a.m. in the morning, the helicopter of the Chamonix gendarmerie went to the Goûter refuge to take care of an exhausted 55-year-old man. Then all morning, the Choucas 74 helicopter carried out the following rescue operations:

  • a mountaineer with shoulder injury at the Bérangère glacier;
  • a Mont Blanc climber who suffered from acute mountain sickness;
  • a rope party at the Cosmiques Hut suffering from snow blindness;
  • a mountaineer with leg injury above the Albert 1er refuge;
  • a rope technically blocked on the south ridge of the Aiguille du Moine;
  • a hiker with an ankle injury.

Friday 8 July: four rescue interventions

The day started on the normal Drus route, to evacuate a blocked team that had spent the night in the mountains. It was lowered back to the helicopter base (DZ) by the PGHM.

The PGHM went to the Refuge du Goûter, to take care of a 68-year-old woman, victim of ophthalmia on the normal route of Mont Blanc.

 The day continued at the Col du Bonhomme above the town of Contamines-Montjoie. A 20-year-old woman was taken ill.

Finally, on the route of the Buvette La Floria in the Chamonix valley, a 71-year-old woman fell while hiking and was airlifted to hospital.

The day before, at the Requin Hut, a man found himself blocked and trapped under a boulder, which destabilized as he passed. To free the mountaineer, significant means were mobilized to free his lower limbs.
