The days remain very busy for the Chamonix High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon (PGHM) in this end of summer.
Tuesday 30 August 2022: six rescue operations carried out by the PGHM
Two rescues involved paragliders. The first was injured at the Col de Barmerousse (in Passy), in the Fiz during a failed take-off. He had a leg trauma and was taken to Sallanches hospital. The second was rescued from the Planpraz take-off area in Chamonix and suffered from back trauma.
According to Le Dauphine, the rescuers aboard the Choucas 74 gendarmerie helicopter then went twice to Blanc lake to help two exhausted hikers, including an 80-year-old woman. They were both evacuated to the helicopter base in Les Bois.
Finally, the gendarmes were mobilized for a person injured in the ankle in the descent of the Flégère and a mountain biker complaining of knee pain on one of the dedicated slopes of the Les Houches area. They were transported to the Sallanches hospital.
Monday August 29: a hiker was rescued
On Monday 29 August 2022, around 1 p.m., a hiker in his fifties had a heavy fall while he was near the gîte in Balmat, in Chamonix.
Suffering from a broken collarbone, he was medicalized by the mountain rescue team and airlifted to the Sallanches hospital center.
