Thursday 8 September 2022, the Chamonix High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon (PGHM) intervened at the former Goûter Hut to evacuate a man who was not equipped with the appropriate mountaineering equipment to evolve on the normal route of Mont Blanc.
The presence of the man was reported by other concerned mountaineers to the Chamonix unit.
According to Le Dauphine, the snow has fallen in the recent nights and makes it more difficult to evolve at altitude. The police rescuers then went to the spot to take the mountaineer down to the helicopter base in Les Bois de Chamonix. An offer accepted by him.
One more victim of the siren song of Mont Blanc, attracted by a summit not to be taken lightly, even if the night refreeze, observed since the reopening of the refuges of the normal route, seems to have reduced the number of rock falls in the corridor of the Goûter.
