A big avalanche of ice close to the Charpua Hut

Four climbers staying at the Charpoua hut, starting point if you want the climb the Drus, heard a big "bang" early yesterday afternoon. One of them went down on the moraine to see what was that big noise. As often happens with the glacier of Charpoua, its final tongue collapsed causing an avalanche of ice, 50m long bym 30 wide. The ice covered the path that gives access to the hut 1.5m high. Fortunately nobody was on the track. Today, Jean-Louis Verdier, assistant of mountain safety for the Chamonix City Hall, shall conduct a survey of the place, but also the Glacier of Taconnaz, that also worries him. Le Dauphiné
