This is the first time in France and the 2nd time in Europe that a tunnel will be equipped with a particle filter. Like this all the gases from the vehicles in the tunnel, will be filtered before discharged into the air in the Chamonix valley. The first measurements show that over 90% of fine particles (PM 10) are recovered/filtered becoming a cake of mud. The Mont Blanc tunnel thinks to filter between 2 and 7 tonnes of mud pollution that will be taken to a specific discharge.
