Light shining through the clouds from the Brevent

Sunday was the bluebird day that we were all waiting for, so I headed up to Flegere, which had been mostly closed on Saturday.

It was looking awesome, shining bright white in the morning sunshine, but it turned out that most of the powder had been pretty well wind-blown during the night. It was skiable, but hard work, and variable, but it was a great day to be out in the sun. The groomed slopes were amazing, though, and lots of people had a great day.

Today we had another 10 centimetres or so of fluffy snow in most areas of the valley, this time with very little wind. It stayed cloudy for most of the day, a few rays of light poking through the clouds. I went up to the Brevent top lift, but it was tough skiing with the flat light off piste - the snow underneath the fresh fluff was variable, especially where the ski patrol had bombed the avalanches down. There are lots of places with avalanche debris just buried by the new snow.

This week has yet more snowfalls coming in, with some clear gaps in between, so there should be some more quality powder skiing ahead, some storm days and maybe a bluebird day or 2, as well as some good groomed pistes to carve. We have lots of space in the Chamonix valley when all the terrain is open, and when there are closed lifts, it will be worth the wait for when they open.
