Chamonix: Reopening of the Grand Montets top cable car 27 Jan 2018

Last update on Thursday 25 January 2018: Due to the investment and the dynamic work of the CMB teams, we are pleased to inform you that, depending on the weather conditions, the second section of the Grands-Montets cable car will re-open on Saturday 27th January 2018.

The Mont-Blanc Natural Resort announced that the the cable car linking the mid station Lognan to the top of the Grands Montets will remain closed until at least the February school holidays.

We remember you that the Lognan-Grands Montets cable car was damaged by the storm Eleanor, which caused important damage to the system.

The suspension arm of the cabin situated at the top was damaged during the storm by the ice and gale force winds. The arm was twisted and now the cabin cannot  line up on the bearer cables.

Therefore, it was decided that the arm should be removed and taken to the workshop for repairs. The duration of the repair is still unknown but it is hoped that the cable car will be back in action for the start of the February holidays, which begin on the 10th February 2018.

We will keep you informed as soon as possible of the reopening of the cable car.

The rest of the Grands Montets ski area remains open, with the pistes in excellent conditions.
