On Tuesday, the 5th of February 2019, the PGHM (Chamonix High Mountain Rescue Team) conducted four successful rescue missions.

Busy day for PGHM yesterday - these heroes have made four interventions with the Dragon 74 helicopter of civil security.

The first rescue was that of a 59 years old women who found herself exhausted in Vallée Blanche.

At the beginning of the afternoon, a person who lost a ski in Vallée Blanche was rescued and brought to the DZ des Bois.

Then, PGHM left for the Balme estate to rescue a person with minor injuries. The injured was transported by Dragon 74 to the hospital centre of Sallanches.

Finally, three skiers who were playing in the off-piste sector of the Pas de Chèvre (Grand Montets ski area) found themselves stranded at the moraine. Unable to descend, they were recovered and brought back to safety by helicopter.

Chamonix.net advises you to properly prepare yourself before going into the mountains.

Shop for suitable equipment and make sure you are always prepared in case of an avalanche. Also, remember to read the snow report before leaving for the mountains.

If a novice, we strongly advise you to consider hiring a ski instructor.

We recommend hiring a mountain guide, especially when going off-piste.

Remember that when skiing off-piste, the dangers increase, so a high mountain guide is strongly recommended, even though you are an advanced skier.
