Chamonix: a new space for beginners was inaugurated on Friday, the 8th of March 2019

Last Friday, the 8th of March 2019, the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc inaugurated a new space at 2186 m altitude.

Equipped with two drag lifts and a detachable chairlift, the new space was designed with the purpose of providing high altitude access to beginners.

The new space for beginners which was inaugurated last Friday is a part of the modernization of the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc programme.

Mathieu Dechavanne, the CEO of the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc, recalls that the work was going well until it was interrupted by the fire of the intermediate station of the Grand-Montets, on the 11th of September, 2018.

Despite all of this, the entire team has shown great will-power and resilience to advance with the work.

Mathieu Dechavanne thanked Pascal Brun of the Chamonix Mont-Blanc Helicopters (CMBH) who was able to convey equipment and personnel to conclude the project; Also, he also praised the prime contractor, DCSA, including Christophe Bottollier, the associate director.

This sector was designed with the arrival of skiers coming from the Grands Montets cable car and it is situated in the most appropriate location to replace two devices in one.

The future Grand-Montets cable car requires thought and time, as it will be there for the next 40 and 50 years.

Mathieu Dechavanne announced that "there will be no reuse of the current line, that the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc will start again on a new project discussed with the mayor. "

After the speeches and the traditional ribbon-cutting at the foot of Tabé's chairlift, the guests and the customers were able to join the upstream station in an inaugural trip and test the beginner's new track.

They met at Plan Jordan's restaurant where there was champagne and the speakers were able to discuss the old and the future projects.

The new six-seater detachable chairlift was designed with the purpose to reduce the ecological and landscape impact. Therefore, it replaces several devices: the former chairlift of the same name, the Plan Roujon chairlift dismantled during the creation of the Plan Joran gondola and the chairlift Marmottons.

The goal of the new space is to bring skiers from the Lognan plateau to serve all tracks in this area. The new comfortable device built by the Leitner company will arrive at an altitude of 2186 meters. Its arrival station is ideally placed above the arrival of the Plan Joran gondola.

The children will find two ski lifts serving three runs (two green and one blue) measuring between 108 and 173 meters long in a space delimited by nets.
