An endurance mountain challenge initiated in Utah, United States, Running Up for Air will be coming to Europe for the first time.
It is no surprise that Chamonix was chosen to host the event this year, as it is considered the "capital of mountaineering".
But there is another reason why Running Up for Air is coming to Chamonix this Saturday, the 4th of May, 2019: the city's poor air quality.
Running Up for Air (RUFA) was created in the U.S. with the purpose of raising money to support the fight for better air quality for those who live along the Wasatch Front.
According to Le Dauphine, Running Up for Air will come to Chamonix tomorrow, the 4th of May 2019, for the first Running Up for Air European event.
Chamonix Mont-Blanc was chosen both for its magnificent scenery of the Mont-Blanc and for its degrading air quality.
An embarrassing truth, especially for residents of the Chamonix valley, but there is hope for improvements in the air quality and this kind of events can make a real difference.
The funds collected via the registration fee - 20 euros/ participant - will be donated to the local association Inspire. The association from Les Houches has a good history of fighting against pollution in the Mont-Blanc valley for years.
The event in Chamonix is organized by Clare Gallagher, who is sponsored by Patagonia and is one of the most distinguished ultra-trail runners in the United States.
Passionate about trail-running and the mountains, Clare Gallagher often runs in the Chamonix valley, having completed the CCC race (Courmayeur-Champex-Chamonix) of the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc in 2017.
Where? On the trails surrounding and behind Les Planards.
Races. Choose among 3, 6 or 12 hours races.
Besides the main running event, there will also be other activities, such as kids races, poster making contents for Inspire and a lot more.
Run tomorrow in Chamonix to fight pollution!
