Major rehabilitation works to the Lac Blanc trail this summer

After the first phase of work in the fall, the trail of the Lac Blanc will undergo further rehabilitation work from the 5th of August until the 30th of September, 2019.

The purposes of the works carried by the Community of Communes of Chamonix-Mont-Blanc Valley (CCVCMB) are to increase the users' safety and to preserve the environment.

The Lac Blanc trail will get a new look in the summer of 2019.

The very popular Lac Blanc, which normally hosts a thousand people per day during summer, will see a rather unusual activity this summer, as teams of workers will labour to improve the Lac Blanc trail.

"This is an extremely busy path, one of the Valley's flagship hikes, indicated by all tourist offices," says Marion Guitteny, conservator of the Aiguilles Rouges natural reserve at the Conservatoire des Spaces Naturelles.

Unfortunately, degradation is a natural consequence of congestion, which means that the trail deteriorated with time and it led to walkers often leaving the main path to avoid the jam.

In total, 1.6 km of will be created by the services of the Community of Communes of Chamonix-Mont-Blanc Valley with the intention to channel walkers on a single path that will not allow for motor vehicles to pass.

This is in addition to the bridge completed last fall.
