Haute-Savoie: Two Dead Skiers in Two Resorts

Tragic 8th of March on the Haute-Savoie slopes.

Two skiers lost their lives on the Grands Montets, respectively Flaine ski areas when they were practising alone on the slopes.

Firstly, on 8 March 2020, around noon, an Englishman in his sixties was found dead on the black slope in the sector of the Pendant des Grands Montets by other skiers.

They immediately contacted the emergency services, which arrived at the same as the PGHM of Chamonix, via Dragon 74.

It is believed that the accident did not have a "traumatic cause", as the Englishman was undergoing treatment and had heart trouble.

Secondly, a 37-year-old Frenchman from the eastern Pyrenees was found dead a hundred meters from the slopes, in the off-piste area of the Flaine station.

The man did not see the big six-meter snowfall in front of him. He relapsed after suffering a head injury resulting in cardiac arrest and death.

A mixed team from the PGHM of Haute-Savoie and the mountain group of firefighters intervened on board Choucas 74 alongside the resort's trackers.

In addition to these two interventions, the gendarmes have carried a dozen other operations on 8 March 2020.

Notably, one person was injured on a steep slope under the Aiguille du Midi.
