Chamonix: Cinema Vox closed to the public for two months

On Wednesday 31 August 2022, the Vox Cinema in Chamonix has closed its doors for two months for renovation work on its large hall and reception halls.

A modernization project to provide more comfort and better projection quality. Most of the work will be concentrated in room 1, the main hall of the cinema.

“We are going to reduce its capacity by 60 places to offer more space to our customers”, explains the general manager Adrien Baud, who is waiting with some impatience to receive the club chairs which will replace the current folding seats.

According to Le Dauphine, double benches will also make it possible to enjoy greater proximity during screenings. Each chair will be numbered, which will allow everyone to reserve their favorite place before the film sessions.

Find below the complete list of renovations:

  • The sound system replaced: a high quality 7.1 sound will be offered at the end of this project.
  • The screen and the projector will also be brand new.
  • The carpets and fabrics will also be changed.
  • Better ventilation and air conditioning.
  • The entrance hall will host a counter for the sale of tickets and sweets.
  • The vending machines that were in place will be removed.
  • The facade of the building also needs to be refreshed.

“The objective is to have completed this move upmarket for the next winter season and in particular for the date of 14 December 2022, when Avatar 2 will be released, a highly anticipated film which is the next big cinematic event. “, explains Adrien Baud, specifying that the transformation of the cinema will not however be completed.

A new closure is expected in the spring of 2023

"A new three-week closure should take place in the spring of 2023 to allow us to renovate room 2 and room 3 in a second step." It is therefore in a completely renovated Vox that the next edition of the Chamonix film festival should take place, next June.

Until then, Chamonix moviegoers will still be able to go to the Mont-Blanc cinema in Sallanches, the nearest multiplex cinema managed by the same operator.

For their part, the Friends of the Cinema are already working on a program of cinematographic celebrations to celebrate, this autumn, the renewed attractiveness of their temple of the Seventh Art.
