A very busy weekend for the Chamonix PGHM

This Saturday and Sunday 21 and 22 January 2023 were particularly busy for the rescuers of the Chamonix High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon (PGHM).

Sunday 22 January: a 12-year-old child who fell during a competition

Until the beginning of the evening, the gendarmes had already carried out no less than eight rescue operations for mainly traumatological injuries. Accidents mostly involving falls on skis, on or off the ski slopes.

Among the interventions, the rescue of a 12-year-old child who fell during a competition at Grands Montets. He was evacuated to Sallanches hospital.

The PGHM of Chamonix also came to the aid of two ski tourers, technically blocked at the Col de Bérard. They were transported to the DZ des Bois.

The Choucas 74 helicopter was in any case heavily used throughout the day.

Saturday January 21: A cross-country skier who fell in a torrent

On Saturday 21 January, the PGHM intervened to help a ski tourer who had fallen in the Floria torrent, at the level of the Combe du Pouce, upstream from the Pont d'Arlevé.

According to Le Dauphine, when the rescuers and the doctor from the Mont-Blanc hospitals arrived, the 50-year-old man was in cardiopulmonary arrest. He was evacuated to Annecy hospital with the Choucas 74 gendarmerie helicopter. His vital prognosis is engaged.

Despite freezing temperatures, beautiful conditions were observed on Saturday around the Mont-Blanc massif. Activity on and off the ski slopes was high. An element which perhaps explains the busy day of the rescuers who had to carry out five interventions.
