Thursday 16 March 2023, the Chamonix High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon (PGHM) intervened to evacuate a speed-rider who got stuck on the north face of the Aiguille du Midi.
An American practitioner of speed riding sport, a blend of paragliding and skiing, found himself stuck when he had rushed a few meters higher.
He landed involuntarily after making a technical fault, without consequence. It was the cabin crew of the Aiguille du Midi cable car who gave the alert around 3:15 p.m. The 34-year-old man was evacuated to the Dropping Zone of Les Bois.
Other rescue operations made by the PGHM during the day
In the rest of the day, the gendarmes made other rescue operations : in the Vallée Blanche, for shoulder and knee trauma, exhaustion and the loss of a ski. All the operations of the day were carried out with the gendarmerie helicopter.
