Earthquake 3.0 near Chamonix

Saturday evening, 9 april 2016, a light earthquake shook the Chamonix valley, leaving no known damage or accidents.

The magnitude 3.0 earthquake struck about 23:19pm. The epicenter is thought to have been 10 km north of Chamonix, between Vallorcine and the Swiss border at a depth of 4.6 km. The event was followed, the next day 10 april by an aftershock of magnitude 1.5 at 00:26am.     

The Switzerland Seismic Newtork announced that the earthquake occurred in the seismically active area by the earthquake of 8 September 2005 of magnitude 4.9 on the Richter scale which caused minor damage in the epicentral area. The last similar earthquake took place on 23 November 2014 and had a magnitude of 3.2 on the Richter scale.

The seismic activity caused no damage.
