Sunday 29th July 2018, two septuagenarians died on the slopes of the Mont Blanc Massif.
According to Le Dauphine, a Swiss (71 years old) traveled with his guide, also Swiss (57 years old), on the bottom of Mont Blanc du Tacul (4.248 m).
Unfortumately the rope broke loose and the man had a fatal fall. The Chamonix High Mountain Rescue Team (PGHM) are studying the case.
His guide was seriously injured but survived, he was transported by helicopter to the hospital.
Another death occurred at the Col du Tricot (2.120 m) for a 70 years old man who suffered a heart attack.
PGHM had several interventions
The PGHM of Chamonix had a busy day with multiple interventions.
At the Col du Dôme and on the route of Mont Blanc, two people with acute mountain sickness were rescued.
Another mountaineer was injured after his rope untied and had a fall in the Petite Verte area.
Three other people found themselves at the Col du Midi, in the descent of the Grands Mulets.
At the end of the day, a hiker injured his knee and was transported to the Alfred-Wills shelter, and a 50 years old man was injured at the Mer de Glace, near the Couvercle refuge.
We advise mountaineers to be cautious and properly equipped.
