Yesterday morning, an avalanche broke away in the slopes above the Pavillon, the intermediate station of the Helbronner cable car on the Italian side of Mont Blanc. The glacier ski area of Courmayeur is usually frequented by lovers of off-piste skiing. The woman, skier of German nationality, aged 47 years died in the avalanche. His companion, a ski instructor and mountain guide the of the Company of Chamonix, escaped unharmed and he tried everything to find her, using his beacon to search for avalanche victims (Arva) skier. In vain. Witnesses said the avalanche was huge and went down nearly 2000 meters almost reaching the level of the Tunnel Mont Blanc. In the French side of the massif, on Monday, the mountain rescue (PGHM) made more than 11 rescues. A 5 years old child got injured when he was on the snowpark at the Grand Montets late afternoon. A skier was found technically blocked in the off-piste Jeurs close to the Swiss border and had to be rescued by the PGHM. A search had to be carried out when an avalanche was triggered in a corridor at the Brévent. No skier were found below the avalanche.
