Alpinism at UNESCO: the application form had been submitted

Monday 26th February 2018, in Paris, at the Ministry of Culture, the mayor of Chamonix, Eric Fournier, and the mayor of Courmayeur, Stefano Miserocchi, officially submitted the candidature application for alpinism to gain recognition in the UNESCO list of ICH (Intangible cultural heritage).

The mayors of Chamonix and Courmayeur were accompanied by Claude Eckhardt of the Fédération française des clubs alpins et de montagne (FFCAM), Bernard Debarbieux, the Chaiman of the Scientific Committee, Aldo Audisio, Director of the National Mountain Museum of Turin, delegate of CAI (Italian Alpine Club) and the coordinators of the application form Bernard Prud'homme, Claude Marin and Luigi Cortese.

This initiative is related to the existence of an international procedure for the recognition, Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage According to the 2003 UNESCO Convention.

According to Le Dauphine, the application form, also worn by Zermatt, in Switzerland, and the mountain professionals, will be presented at the end of March 2018 to the competent authorities of Unesco.

This recognition will materialize after a careful review process of the candidature application by the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.

An answer is expected by November 2019.
