By increasing the frequency of the Mont-Blanc Express from December 15 to March 30 between Les Houches and Vallorcine, an operation that costs the Region nearly 300,000 euros, local elected officials and the SNCF were betting that many skiers, tourists and residents would turn to the train for their internal travel in the valley.
The attendance statistics seem to prove them right. On average, during Christmas week, 2,800 passengers were transported per day. And it was even double during New Year's week with 5,600 passengers counted each day.
It must be said that in addition to being free for Viacham card holders, the Mont-Blanc Express, which serves 17 stops in the intercommunal territory, is a very popular means of transport during peak periods in the valley.
When the roads and car parks are saturated, the train moves forward without a hitch.
