On Friday, 29 September 2023, at 7 p.m, Philippe Ancey closed the doors of his chocolate and confectionery shop in Chamonix. A moving moment for the man who has been making and selling sweet treats since he was 14 years old.
But more than the retirement of a passionate man, the farewell of this colossus with fine taste buds marks a turning point in the commercial life of Chamonix.
A worthy representative of a line of pastry chefs, Philippe Ancey had succeeded at the head of this ancestral shop, in the capital of mountaineering since 1892, after learning the secrets of his father's and great-uncle's recipes.
