Tuesday 17th October 2017, at about 2 pm, a group of climbers was caught in a rock fall while ascending the north face of the Aiguille du Midi (3,842m) in the the Mont Blanc massif.
According to Le Dauphine, one of the climbers with head trauma was evacuated by the gendarmes of the Chamonix PGHM and transported as standard procedure, directly to Sallanches hospital.
The Aiguille du Midi is the starting point for many summits surrounding the valley Blanche, and is very frequented by mountaineers for its many glacial, mixed or purely rocky routes.
The N face of the Aiguille du Midi, overlooked by the second section of the Aiguille du Midi cable car, has mixed or glacial routes. One of the best known is the Frendo Spur.
