Tuesday, 7 April 2015. Nature seems to be taking revenge. Two young people died this weekend in Haute-Savoie and two other were seriously injured.
Fatal accidents in Chamonix!
On Sunday, the 5th April, an alpiniste lost his life in a climbing accident near the Grands Montets. The young man, 25, has been seriously injured after slipping over a rock barrier and hit in the head by a tree. The gendarmes from the Chamonix PGHM were immediately called, but they could not help him. The alpiniste has died at around 4pm after suffering severe head injuries.
On the same day, in the morning, two other cross-country skiers were injured in an avalanche triggered in the Aiguilles Rouges massif. For the next few days, the prefecture from Haute-Savoie recommended to use extreme caution due to the unstable snowpack.
The second tragedy occurred in Argentière, after 11pm, when a boy riding his bike, suddenly left his trajectory and went straight into a streetlight. Called by witnesses, the firemen from the Chamonix Main Rescue Centre arrived and tried to save his life. Despite their long and desperate attempts to resuscitate him, the victim died in the result of the violent impact.
