Absent from the World Cup calendar for 2 years, the Kandahar Downhill racing seems to return to Chamonix in 2016

The Kandahar competition is in totally supported by Chamonix's mayor Eric Fournier and the International Ski Federation (FIS).

The Kandahar is a renowned annual men's Alpine downhill ski race that had been held in Les Houches from 2004 to 2012.

Organization of 2016 Alpine Skiing World Cup in Chamonix Valley: Pros and Cons

The possible organization of the 2016 Alpine Skiing World Cup on February, the 20th in La Verte (Les Houches), sparked a lot of discussion. Concerns have been raised not only over security and the big volume of traffic, but also on the fact that La Verte piste, usually used for the races would be unavailable to other skiers.

The MP Sophie Dion fully agrees the 2016 sportive competiton. She assures people that the organization of the Alpine Skiing World Cup has more positive sides than negative.
Between 25 000 - 35000 spectators could take part in one of the most mediated event around the world.
 

A decisive meeting shall be held on Wednesday, the 5th November where the city council shall decide if la Verte des Houches hosts the 2016 Kandahar World Cup.
