In April 2013, the municipality of Chamonix expressed interest in acquisition of land around the Torrent de la Balme on the backside of the Aiguilles Rouges. This is not land near the Tete du Balme, above the village of Le Tour. The terrain of 673 hectares expands within the boundaries of Aiguilles Rouges National Nature Reserve.
The Chamonix Municipality has declared a commitment to buy the land, agrees to pay €142,000 and to comply with all environmental regulations.
This process, conducted in coordination with SAFER (Land Development and Rural Establishment Society) is part of a broader strategy for the preservation and valuation of natural areas, carried out across in the local region.
