Friday 30 August 2013 at 8.41 am, Vlad Moise, Romanian amateur mountaineer and junior broker performed what is claimed to be the first currency trading on a mountain top on the summit of Mont Blanc, the highest peak in the Alps (4810m).
The transaction was carried on a xTAB platform developed by Vlad at XTB (X Trade Brokers). The trade was made from a tablet. The telephony carrier was Orange and they had 3G full signal on the summit of Mont-Blanc. He traded EUR/USD with a profit of €100.
On Sat 24 August, Adrian Mihai Gheorghiu, Paul Manuel Dumitrescu and Vlad Moise, departed from Millan on their expedition to conquer the summit of Mont Blanc. During the expedition, Vlad Moise, eager to carry out financial transactions at the highest altitudes in Europe, proved that with great technology one can trade anywhere, anytime, with almost any device that can connect to the Internet.
Before their ascent they visited Chamonix and then traveled to Saint Gervais les Bains. From there they took the Tramway du Mont-Blanc to Nid d'Aigle (2372m). From Nid d'Aigle they hiked up to the Refuge de Tête Rousse (3167m). Then they traversed the Grand Couloir to Refuge du Goûter (3835m), passed by Aiguille du Goûter (3863m) and continued on up to the Dome du Goûter (4304m). They traversed the Les Bosses Ridge and made the final ascent to the summit of Mont-Blanc. Their descent was by the same route until below the snow line where they diverted to Chamonix.
There is a blog for the expedition with details of the plan and the team members: xtbmontblanc.com
