On 21 February 2020, at 4.41 am, the firefighters went to 12 Chemin de Belachat, at a place called Les Moettieux, for a fire in a 150-square-meter chalet.
Although the roof of the chalet was destroyed, the four residents have fortunately escaped unharmed.
Big scare during the night of 20 to 21 February 2020 for a family of four residing in a chalet on the slopes of Brévent!
When the twenty firefighters arrived at 4.41 am, the chalet was already ablaze.
Under the command of Lieutenant Laurent Corrot, the firefighters engaged in a long and tiring intervention, punctuated by small victories.
At around 8.30 am, the fire was completely contained and there was no longer a risk of spreading.
At 9 am, the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (Sdis) announced that the fire was out. In reality, the premises were not completely secured until around noon.
"As the roof burned completely, it was not until the insulation and roofing part was cleared by the specialized services, that we were able to access the glowing beams and eliminate the last residual foci", says the captain and centre manager of Chamonix, Rémi Viard.
At around 10 pm, all operations were over and the firefighters took turns in small groups to make rounds and watch for any new possible fire starts.
The action of the firefighters saved the ground floor, which was only damaged. The first floor, on the other hand, was badly affected by the quantities of water poured out by the spears while the attic completely went up in smoke.
Heavy material damage, therefore, but no injuries and this is what matters most. "The operation went well," said Captain Viard, praising the work of his teams.
