Friday morning 21 January 2022, a little before 8 am, a fire started at the restaurant “L’impossible”, route des Pèlerins in Chamonix.
Fortunately there were no casualties. Until this moment the circumstances of the fire are not known.
Rémi Viard, the captain and centre manager of the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS) of Chamonix, said "There was a significant risk of spread to the two adjoining buildings", before adding "The roof quickly broke through" But the two buildings were preserved thanks to the quick emergency response.
50 firefighters from Sallanches, Chamonix and Cluses were mobilized to extinguish the fire.
According to Le Dauphine, rescue specialists are also on site to "stripping" the roof to gain access to the source of the fire.
The captain Viard reassured evryone and said "We are master of the fire at the moment".
Firefighters are expected to continue their intervention throughout the morning.
