La 45e édition du Marathon du Mont-Blanc ce weekend à Chamonix 2024

Eight races in three days, thousands of runners expected... No doubt, the trail season begins in Chamonix this Thursday, June 27 with the new edition of the Mont-Blanc Marathon.

The 45th edition of the Mont-Blanc Marathon, will begin this Friday, June 28, 2024, an event that has become legendary since its creation in 1979.

The races will extend over three days, from Friday to Sunday.

  • Friday will be marked by the start of the 90 km of Mont-Blanc at 4 a.m. as well as that of the Vertical Kilometer at 5 p.m.
  • The 23 km will start on Saturday at 8 a.m. followed by the 10 km at 10:30 a.m., the Mini-cross at 2 p.m. And finally the Star Duo who will leave at 7:30 p.m.
  • The main race of this event, the 42 km, will start on Sunday at 7:15 a.m. while the Young race will leave at 10:30 a.m.

This year again, some 10,000 participants will take part in the eight races offered by the organization, with, as every year, more than 2,000 runners in the flagship race, the 42 km.

Big names in world trail running will come together to compete for victory. The stars, like Rémi Bonnet or Elhousine Elazzaoui for men and Sophia Laukli for women.

Transport - 35,000 people expected for the weekend in Chamonix

Beyond the legendary races, the Mont-Blanc Marathon also hides an impressive organization based on nearly 600 volunteers. Enough to accommodate the nearly 10,000 runners and 35,000 people who come only during the weekend. Transport therefore remains a major challenge for the organization. This is why the Mont-Blanc Marathon sets up shuttles dedicated to accompanying people.

For each race format, the shuttles depart from a different location. Those accompanying the 90 km will have to go to Chamonix station at 6:45 a.m. The shuttles will depart from the “media library” stop in Chamonix for those following the 23 km runners. For the 42 km, go to the “Place du Mont-Blanc” stop.

Fanzones on the Vertical Kilometer on Friday and on the 42 km on Sunday

Friday, meet above the Pranplaz gondola at 4:30 p.m. to watch the runners pass through a wild fan zone. Sunday June 30, hosted by the Golden trail series teams, the fan zone will be located at the Tour refreshment point. They will distribute gifts and encouragement. To get there, you just have to board the shuttle in Chamonix which will take you directly to the refreshment point.

The 42km will be broadcast on Eurosport

For trail enthusiasts who cannot make it to the event, a live broadcast will be broadcast on Eurosport from 9 a.m. and will allow you to watch from a distance the great battle that the 42km will offer. A transcription produced as part of the Golden trail world series.
