On Wednesday 26 January 2022, the rescuers of the High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon (PGHM) carried out seven rescue operations using the Dragon 74 civil security helicopter.
For skiers the snow conditions are no longer so ideal, but those for the high mountains are excellent and the fine weather has allowed the climbers to enjoy the mountain.
Resumption of activity for the Chamonix mountain rescue
According to Le Dauphiné, the day of Wednesday began with the first intervention, the transport by helicopter of a 24-year-old man with frostbite on his foot, at the level of the Couvercle hut. He was transported to the Chamonix Hospital.
The gendarmes of Chamonix PGHM went to the Mont Blanc normal route to assist a 35-year-old mountaineer with a sprained knee. Then they headed to Les Contamines-Montjoie to help a man with nephrotic colic.
In the afternoon, PGHM rescuers had to travel to the Vallée Blanche for traumatic injuries, including a 57-year-old woman with a hip fracture; the medical team decided to helicopter her to Sallanches Hospital.
The PGHM then recovered a rope of two men at the top of Les Droites (4000 m) exhausted and unable to descend again on their own.
Finally, the day ended with the help of a 23-year-old woman suffering from acute mountain sickness at the foot of the Aiguille du Midi. She was transported to the Chamonix emergency Hospital.
