Wednesday 26 January 2022, the list of registrants for UTMB® Mont-Blanc 2022 was unveiled.
As expected, François D’Haene, the title holder and four-time winner of the event, it will not be present this edition. The Savoyard will go head-to-head with Kilian Jornet, himself a three-time winner of the event, on the Hardrock 100 in the United States a month earlier.
But UTMB 2022 promiss to be exciting:
- The return of Spanish ultra-trailer Pau Capell, winner in 2019 and recovering after knee surgery in 2021.
- Savoyard Aurélien Dunand-Pallaz will also participate in the UTMB® Mont-Blanc 2022 in Chamonix.
- We find again Mathieu Blanchard from Vaucluse (3rd) and Germain Grangier from Isère (5th).
- Xavier Thevenard, three-time winner of the event, will try again, after dropping out in 2021.
On the foreign side:
- The American Jim Walmsley will try his luck once again to try to overcome the curse of the USA on the event.
- The German Hannes Namberger (6th in 2021) will be there.
- The Russian Dmitry Mityaev (abandoned in 2021) another name on the list this year
In women category:
The title holder Courtney Dauwalter, who broke the event record by taking 7th place in the scratch, will not be present at the event.
Sweden's Mimmi Kotka (3rd), who snatched a podium from a cramped finish, will return this year.
Also Savoyard Audrey Tanguy will participate.
