This summer 2022, the Chamoniard swimmers will have no access to the 50-meter outdoor pool at the Richard-Bozon swimming pool.
The Chamonix Valley was awarded €2.4 million euros in damages for poor workmanship on the pool's outdoor basins. The call for tenders will be launched this spring to rehabilitate them definitively.
The vice-president of the intercommunality in charge of sports, Aurélie Beaufour said "It is nevertheless good news since we will finally be able to solve the problem of this swimming pool".
According to Le Dauphine, last summer, Aurélie Beaufour had already obtained from the intermunicipal authority an envelope of 450.000 euros to plan the area full of poor workmanship and to perpetuate the equipment. A solution far from ideal but which had the merit of not being subject to the legal calendar and the settlement of the dispute.
Fortunately, with the decision taken by the administrative court of Grenoble which has just condemned the companies responsible to compensate the Community of communes of the valley up to 2.4 million euros, the cards have been reshuffled. This sum is enough to start even more lasting repair work now.
The choice of a stainless steel coating
The outdoor pool and its adjoining beaches will finally be completely redone with a stainless steel coating which will guarantee a better longevity and reduced operating costs.
The Community of Communes worked on the different scenarios for repairing the 50 m basin and the adjoining beaches. Among the technical options, it is the "Stainless Steel" solution which was retained in the budget voted on Monday 28 March 2022 by the Community Council. An operation that requires 15 months of renovation work and an investment of 1.75 million euros.
Work will begin this spring for a return to service of the outdoor pools in the summer of 2023.
