The Col des Montets chalet, focal point of the Aiguilles Rouges Reserve, reopens to the public on Saturday 9 July 2022 after major interior renovation work on the building and PMR accessibility (people with reduced mobility) carried out by the Town Hall of Chamonix.
New scenography for the Col des Montets chalet
The original scenography was piloted by the Community of Communes of the Chamonix Valley as part of the European project Interpretation of natural and cultural heritage of the Integrated Territorial Plan of the Mont-Blanc Area and mobilized several actors:
- Asters, the manager of the Haute Savoie nature reserves;
- Arnar, the association of the friends of the reserve;
- CREA. the Center for Research on Altitude Ecosystems.
The purpose of this European project is to improve the tourist offer, in terms of heritage interpretation on the territory of the Espace Mont-Blanc, in particular by significantly upgrading the reception of the public.
In addition to actions of communication and networking of actors, the project also includes investments in reception sites for the public at the gates of this protected natural areas.
At the Col des Montets chalet you will find visuals on the fauna and flora, paintings on the landscapes and the evolution of the environments, stuffed animals, interpretation tables, models, microscopes, a place of projection ...as well as a shop and bar.

The nature animator of the Community of Communes of the Chamonix Valley, Alex Bruneau, is on site to welcome you, guide you and answer to your questions.
Trainees are also present on the site to assist visitors.
- Fridays: family entertainment;
- Tuesdays: conferences are offered in connection with Arnar;
- Every Thursday: walks events are organised.
