Call for caution in the mountains
The consequences of the heat and the drought are already being felt on the normal route of Mont Blanc, "strongly discouraged" due to rock falls in the Goûter Couloir.
Faced with these conditions, the guide companies of Chamonix and Saint-Gervais (Haute-Savoie) have temporarily suspended the ascent of Mont-Blanc. Read more about it in our article here.
The prefect of Haute-Savoie calls on mountaineers "to exercise the greatest vigilance and the greatest caution before setting off for the high mountains".
In the high mountains, they could find themselves in dangerous conditions: falling rocks, weakened snow bridges, unstable ice,” he added.
Mountaineers are advised to consult mountain professionals before any excursion:
- The High Mountain Office: +33 4 50 53 22 08.
- The Company of Guides of Saint-Gervais-les-Bains: +33 4 50 47 76 55.
- The Chamonix-Mont-Blanc Guide Company: +33 4 50 53 00 88
