Monday 15 August 2022, at around noon, a trail runner died while training in the moraine of the Glacier de Pélerins (2414 meters), located between the Aiguille du Plan and the Aiguille du Midi.
A moraine is a pile of rock debris transported by the glacier. This very unstable terrain caused the fatal fall of the 58-year-old man.
The man came to Chamonix as a tourist and he was traveling alone and off trail.
According to Le Dauphine, the victim was the head of a major transport company in Aveyron.
The alert was given by the cabin operator of the cable car
It was the cabin operator of the Aiguille du Midi cable car who saw the trailer fall several meters and called the emergency services. But it was too late when the two PGHM gendarmes and the doctor arrived on the spot.
